Deploying IxNetwork Web Edition as a Docker container

Note: Supported on CentOS and Ubuntu Distributions.

1. Copy the .tar file on the Linux host
2. Make sure the interface has promiscous mode enabled: ifconfig eth1 promisc
3. Load the image to docker: docker load -i </path/to/tar/file>


Decompress the bz2 file: tar xjf <file.tar.bz2> (Will take several minutes) The image name will be shown as: ixnetworkweb_9.00.2.57_image docker images ls REPOSITORY TAG IMAGE ID CREATED SIZE [hgee@clone3 Downloads]$ docker load -i Ixia_IxNetworkWeb_Docker_9.00.2.57.tar 129b697f70e9: Loading layer [==================================================>] 205.1MB/205.1MB 75f32d0d2f9a: Loading layer [==================================================>] 18.94kB/18.94kB 0eea23754ee4: Loading layer [==================================================>] 413.3MB/413.3MB a4dbe5c28b5a: Loading layer [==================================================>] 1.679GB/1.679GB Loaded image: ixnetworkweb_9.00.2.57_image:latest



4. Loaded image: ixnetworkweb_9.00.2.57_image:latest <-- This is the <image name> to be used on step 6.
5. Create the macvlan bridge to be used by IxNetwork Web Edition:


• Enter: docker network create -d macvlan -o parent=eth1 --subnet=192.168.x.0/24 --gateway=192.168.x.254 <bridge_name>
• NOTE: Use your subnet, prefix length and gateway IP address


• Enter:
• docker network ls
• docker network inspect IxNetVlanMac


6. Deploy the IxNetwork Web Edition container using the following command:


docker run --net <bridge name> \ --ip <container ip> \ --hostname <hostname> \ --name <container name> \ --privileged \ --restart=always \ --cap-add=SYS_ADMIN \ --cap-add=SYS_TIME \ --cap-add=NET_ADMIN \ --cap-add=SYS_PTRACE \ -i -d \ -v /sys/fs/cgroup:/sys/fs/cgroup \ -v /var/crash/=/var/crash \ -v <host configs location>:/root/.local/share/Ixia/sdmStreamManager/common \ -v <host results location>:/root/.local/share/Ixia/IxNetwork/data/result \ -v <host settingslocation>:/root/.local/share/IXIA/IxNetwork.Globals \ --tmpfs /run \ <image name> <-- Get image name from step 4



7. On a remote host, open up a web browser and connect to the configured container IP address.
