If you're automating with legacy TCL, Python or Perl low level or high level APIs (not ReST APIs), you need to bring up the IxOS TCL server on the XM2/XM12 chassis.

It is not necessary if you're using an XGS SDL/HSL Linux OS based chassis or IxVM chassis.


For IxLoad


If you're automating with legacy TCL or Python APIs. (Not ReST APIs).


  • Physical Chassis
    • You need to bring up the IxOS TCL server only if you're using XM2/XM12 chassis.
    • Not necessary if you're using an XGS SDL/HSL Linux OS based chassis or IxVM chassis.

  • Client
    • For Windows client only: You also you need to bring up the IxOS TCL server.
    • You need to install the TCL server on the Windows client PC.

How to bring up the IxOS TCL server


  • Click on the Start button
  • Under the IxOS version that you are working with, select Ixia TCL Server or IxNetwork API Server.



  • Expect this IxOS TCL server window to pop up afterwards
